About Earth Trek

Earth Trek is an expedition event held every year for the purpose of natural history image capture. It’s main objective, to explore new territories and bring back images of interest and unique beauty. Director, natural history photographer and videographer, Richard McKenna setup Earth Trek in 2002 in order to capture photographic images and document through text and illustration the unique habitats and life forms of the Australian wilderness. Since it’s beginnings in 2002, Earth Trek has travelled to all corners of the Australian landscape to capture images of wildlife, landscape, indigenous culture and unique tourism destinations. Earth Trek has explored the Kimberley in Western Australia, the great inland deserts of central Australia, the vast coastline of the coral coasts of both Queensland and Western Australia and the many grand forests of the regions. Richard aims to continue the Earth Trek expeditions in collaboration with other natural history specialist. Today, current expeditions aim to document our changing environment due to climate change and bring this information to the public through print and digital media. Earth Trek is a strong advocate of preserving natural ecosystems and employing sustainable ways of using energy. Solar technology is utilised on all treks as a power source and recycling practices are implemented. Earth Trek expeditions use 4-wheel drives to access many unique locations but employs a strict policy to tread lightly and remain on designated tracks. Mountain bikes and kayaks are also used as means of transportation.
